Requirements

• Federal OSHA requires that employers provide access to qualified first aid within 15 minutes when the environment poses no extreme hazard (suffocation, severe bleeding). When the environment does present the possibility of extreme hazard, OSHA's requirement is qualified first aid within 3 - 4 minutes. If the local EMS agency cannot guarantee that kind of response, then it becomes the responsibility of the employer to provide a source of first aid for the employee.
• Federal OSHA requires all individuals operating an industrial powered truck, such as a fork lift, pallet jack, or orderpicker to have training on the safe handling, operation, and inspection of their trucks.
• Federal OSHA mandates that all workers with a potential exposure to bodily fluid have a short inservice on self-protection and infection control.
• Federal OSHA mandates that all workers who wear respirators during the course of their work day be fit tested and undergo a medical screening.
