Leasing AEDs
Much like computer technology, AED technology moves forward very quickly. Yesterday's newest AED is today's obsolete medical device. You might be able to get by with a 4 year old Personal Computer; but when you need an AED you want the best modern science has to offer. Lives depend on it...
Here is comparison of AED technology across the last 5-6 years:
| Feature | 1996 | 1999 | 2002 (ZOLL AED Plus) | 2004 (SAMARITAN PAD) |
| Average weight | 30 lbs | 15 lbs | 8 lbs | 2 lbs |
| Waveform | Monophasic | Biphasic | Rectilinear Biphasic | SCOPE Biphasic |
| Waveform Status | Obsolete | Dated | State-of-the-Art | State-of-the-Art |
| Analysis | Manual Analyze | Auto Analyze | Auto Analyze | Auto Analyze |
| Helps with CPR Assessment | No | No | Yes | |
| Gives Feedback on Compressions | No | No | Yes | |
| Cost of Ownership < $70/year< | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| Cost | ~ $6000.00 | Just under $4000 | Just under $2000 | Around $1500 |
AED leases offer the best option for making sure you are equipped with the latest AED technology. Unlike leasing a car (which only provides you with the equipment), AED leasing provides the necessary training, consulting, and medical direction required to use an AED). There are no large upfront costs for units that might be obsolete in five years. They include maintenance service, training, and medical direction for a reasonable cost. They also include machine service and replacement of pads should a real event occur that requires the AED to be used. At the end of the lease, should there be a more beneficial AED technology available, that machine can be substituted for the original unit for the next lease term. As AED technology moves forward, so will your health and safety program.
